Ethiopia – Introduction of VAT on e-commerce transactions

During the summer of 2024, Ethiopia updated its VAT legislation aiming at collecting revenue from the digital economy. The House of Peoples’ Representatives ("HPR") in Ethiopia issued a revamped VAT legislation (referred to as the VAT Proclamation No. 1341/2024) with an effective date of 4 July 2024.
